Jason M. Bennett, CPA

Allegany County Director of Finance Jason M. Bennett, CPA, was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Allegany County, Jacob C. Shade, Creade V. Brodie, Jr., and David J. Caporale, to serve as the Interim County Administrator effective June 1, 2020. Bennett was selected by unanimous vote at the Board’s May 28, 2020 public business meeting. 

Born and raised in Western Maryland, after graduating from Allegany High School, Cumberland, Maryland, Bennett earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Maryland. He is an active licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Bennett had experience working in public accounting firms in both the Washington, DC, and Cumberland areas before entering public service. He joined Allegany County Government’s Department of Finance as an Accountant in November 2003. Bennett was promoted to Chief Accountant in December 2005 and became the Director of Finance in June 2011. In this capacity, Bennett is responsible for developing and administering a significant operating (FY 2021 $94,548,469) and capital (FY 2021 $9,728,056) budget.

Bennett is a member of the County’s Management Team and will also continue his duties as Director of Finance. Bennett is presently pursuing the Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) designation with the Government Finance Officers Association. He is a graduate of Leadership Allegany! Bennett serves the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) as Chair of the Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust. He was President of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, Western Maryland Chapter. In addition, Bennett is a member of the Maryland Government Finance Officers Association (MDGFOA), the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

In the community, Bennett serves as a Holding Hands for Haley Foundation, Inc. Board Member and is also an assistant girls soccer coach at Fort Hill High School, Cumberland.

Bennett resides in Oldtown with his wife, Sarah, and their four daughters: Ryann, Carly, Ella and Cassidy.
