Allegany County provides water and/or sewer service to portions of the county.
The Utilities Division maintains the public water system in Rawlings and the public sewer systems in Barton, Flintstone, Lonaconing, McCoole, Midland, and Oldtown. They do NOT maintain the public water and public sewer systems in the city/town limits of Cumberland, Frostburg, LaVale, Luke, and Westernport.
Allegany County Utilities Division does not regulate, have access to septic tank records or maintain a list of certified septic contractors or haulers. Please contact the Allegany County Health Department.
Allegany County Government does not provide any electrical power, natural gas, cable or street lights. Please contact the private utilities companies responsible for those services.
85% of Allegany County residents have access to public water and sewer. The county serves nearly 15,000 residential and commercial users. The Utilities Division manages 155 miles of water lines and 195 miles of sewer lines. It operates five wastewater treatment plants, eight water pump stations, 22 waste water pump stations, and is responsible for 11 water storage tanks. This division also takes the associated water and sewer meter readings.
